THAT WAS US THEN THIS IS US NOW

You had sticks and stones;

We have nukes and drones.

You had caves of darkness;

We have caves of lightness.

We have motor scooters;

You had no computers.

You had no skyscraper;

We have the flypaper.

You had mammoths;

We have cheese cloths.

alone

 Coucher de soleil, Venise by Claude Monet

Of course you feel alone

 Just as you did

 When you came into this world

Yes, you had a parent or parents

 And if not, there was at least a doctor

Standing near,

 Beneath the bright lights,

Inside a stainless-steel room

 That was filled with baby cries and birth pangs.

But you are alone now just as you were then.

It’s only a bigger world now with a lot more people.

You’re not alone.

UNIVERSAL MIND by The Doors

I was doing time in the universal mind
I was feeling fine
I was turning keys, I was setting people free
I was doing all right

Then you came along with a suitcase and a song
Turned my head around
Now I'm so alone, just looking for a home
In every place I see

I'm the freedom man
I'm the freedom man
I'm the freedom man
That's how lucky I am

I was doing time in the universal mind
I was feeling fine
I was turning keys, I was setting people free
I was doing all right

Then you came along with a suitcase and a song
Turned my head around
Now I'm so alone, just looking for a home
In every place I see

I'm the freedom man

I was doing time in the universal mind
I was feeling fine
I was turning keys, I was setting people free
I was doing all right

Then you came along with a suitcase and a song
Turned my head around
Now I'm so alone, just looking for a home
In every place I see

I'm the freedom man
That's how lucky I am
I'm the freedom man
I'm the freedom man

ON THE DEATH OF A GOLDFISH

Minion of the aquarium’s ten-gallon sea!

No more shall I see

 Thy swishy tail or

Finny flail!

Gone is thy

Golden glimmer!

Adieu!  Adieu!

Bright, sunny swimmer!

A WISE AND WIZENED MAN

A wise and wizened man

 had wandered

in wonder
throughout

this pitiful and beautiful world.

Grand parades and great skyscrapers

 were naught to his soul.

The oceans, rivers, and mountains

 captivated his soul.

Brahms and Beethoven

 captivated his heart.

Butterflies and flowers captivated his heart and soul.

Limerick #19

Limerick #19: There once was an old Neanderthal

There once was an old Neanderthal

Who had some very unusual eating habits,

But his cuisine didn’t include bunny rabbits,

And he never consumed any narwhal,

This old Neanderthal.
